BUSY DAYS AT HOME

Finally back on Norwegian soil again, and it feels wonderful! It wasn’t quite as wonderful to have to cut out all competitions before the end of the season because of damage after the crashes in Beijing, but my body is now totally healed and I’m back in full training again.

NO SUCCESS AT THE OLYMPICS

It’s tough having to drop out of the Olympics because of technical problems, but the disappointment would have been even greater if I had been in the lead when I had the accident. Realistically speaking, I really wasn’t a candidate for the gold medal this time, but very few believed us.

WORLD CUP CANADA – NO START

Due to a heavy bout of diarrhoea last night, I didn’t take part in the World Cup race here at Bromont / Canada. After intense stomach pains and many trips to the toilet through the night, we weren’t taking any chances on a tough race today, even though we saw this race as an important part of the preparations for the Olympics.

The final test for me before the Olympics will be two World Cup races here in Canada. ROUGH DAY AT THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

A very demanding World Championship race track in 30 degrees, meant a really tough day at the office. Still, it was a valuable experience with good feel and flow. An acceptable seventh place at this year’s World Championship is a step in the right direction.

1 WEEK TILL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Only minor adjustments remain for the final week before the World Championships. All races I've taken part in this year have been fantastic preparation for me, and so will the World Championships, no matter what the result. My latest confrontation with the world elite last weekend in Fort William was a good experience, except for some bad luck at the beginning of the race.

BRONZE MEDAL AT THE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS – GOOD AS GOLD

The battle for the medals was very tough at the European Championships in St. Wedel, Germany, last weekend. I lost the sprint for the silver medal, but the bronze medal was just as wonderful as a gold medal for Kenneth and me, considering our goals before the race, which were to feel on top of things and get in some extremely good race-training.

HAIRLESS PREPARATIONS FOR EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

EXTREME EXPERIENCE ON MY BIKE

The race was a fight right up to the very last metre. Blood, sweat and tears are an integral part of our sport, but my comeback to the world elite last Sunday was an experience I will never forget, for quite different reasons. Many people deserve a part of my World Cup victory last Sunday. And the bet I made with Kenneth before my triumph is guaranteed to be a spectacular séance…

ROUGH START TO THE WORLD CUP

My very first World Cup race in eleven months was a tough confrontation with the mountain biking elite. The following day when I got up, my body felt as if it had been beaten up in a fight. Even so, my results from Houffalize the previous weekend were surprising and encouraging, as I came in as number 6. Today, in the German town of Offenburg, I quitted the race after the second round.

FIRST OFF-ROAD RACE

My first confrontation with rough terrain this year was very demanding. A few slips and falls, plus cramping in fingers and lower arms, really gave me an authentic sensation of being back in my element. Fantastic to be on the go again!

GALA BALL AT CASTLE

It was wonderful taking part in this year’s presentation of the Gunn-Rita Marathon, which took place in a 1000-year-old castle here in the Treviso province. The nearly 300 invited guests were served tasty food and wine, plus exciting history, a bit of politics, and naturally a whole lot about mountain biking. The awe-inspiring atmosphere in the castle added an extra star to the “castle gala” experience this evening.

My very first race in almost 10 months tasted simply delicious. My encounter with the World Cup riders on tarmac yesterday in the Italian town of Cittiglio was demanding, as expected, but provided me with a super challenge. It’s great to be on the move again.

SUNSHINE ON MAJORCA

From winter and freezing cold in Boulder to hot sun and summer clothing on Majorca – the contrasts are striking in our every day lives, and that’s exactly the appeal of being a professional mountain-biker. It’s fantastic feeling the sun warm my white winter skin, even if it’s only for a few minutes.
